Char-Len, A Cottage Industry
A creative production company fueled by memory and driven by John Alban Coughlan.
Lisa Foley plays Lorna Timberlake (nee Underwood) in Char-Len's loving evocation of 20th Century pulp culture, The Unsymmetrical! Hear her nostalgic recollections of halcyon days spent close to the ocean, dreams of the future, and the intense creativity that was so present in our past during those Char-Len summer repasts.
The Triumvirate was there: John Alban Coughlan, Joe Keenan and Tony McLean! And the Mentor, Teacher, Pied Piper, Kevin Kynock. I was often his plus one. Others were swept along in the eddy, especially when Long Days Journey Into Night was being seriously considered and then intensely rehearsed. And what brought us all there is that we were theatre nerds on retreat from the jock atmosphere at BC High. Can you imagine us doing our Isadora Duncan thing on the football field? And our eclectic taste ran from Debussy to Spike Jones and the City Slickers. (Cocktails for Two was our reveille as I recall). Having not mastered the basics of food science we fed each other recipes that bewildered and sometimes revolted us but nobody died. And the friendships have endured for decades no matter the distance between us.
