Dollars and Sense: Just a Year Ago At This Time…

Hello Everyone.

Well, incredibly this past Sunday marked the anniversary of our first screening—a private one— of Dollars and Sense co-produced by Char-Len, a Cottage Industry and Bay One Entertainment.

We only just managed that Saturday night to eke our way under a quickly descending curtain of opportunities for public gatherings here in Manhattan. Blessedly, the crowd assembled escaped unscathed and enthusiastic at evening’s end. But, it did indeed prompt me and my steadfast crew to return to the editing room for an additional four months work in post production.

So, I want to once again acknowledge our very talented cast and crew for their exceptional commitment of time and effort over these last three years.

And so, my very special thanks to both our director and my co-producer, Nick Bradshaw as well as to my acting partner, Aaron Gaines. To our composer, Phillip Bevers, production designer, Glenn Barrett, cinematographers, Nick Gilchrist and Blake Rozelle, sound editor, Matt Straub, photographer, Darin Chumbley and Marketing and Publicity directors, Kate Marinello and Kelly Sundsvold of K. T. World Communications and Gold Bear Media, respectively.

For those of you who are just starting to follow me here, we’re excited to announce that Dollars and Sense was recently awarded the Culver City Film Festival’s 2020 Grand Prize for Best Narrative Short.

My gratitude extends further still to all of those generous patrons responsible for bolstering us along the way. I hope that all of you will continue to follow Char-Len’s activity as just this past month I’m—excited to say—we started pre-production on our next project which will be our first try at an animated short. It’s entitled, The Unhinged and it’s quite an edgy little chestnut. If you’d like to follow its backstory, please take a look at my recent Blogs that can be most easily accessed on my website at www.johnalbancoughlan.com. You’ll find several appreciative nods there to actor/director/producer, William Conrad, as well as to actress, Eleanor Parker—both of them marvels in my revered pantheon of seriously over the top artists—emphasis on their seriousness of intent. The project is an experiment in something that I’ve coined that I like to call Maximism.

Finally—a loving nod to playwright, Anton Chekhov. His inspiration led to both Dollars and Sense and the source from which it stems, my play Of Lives and Leaves

I’ll thank you for advancing with us along our newly chartered way this season.

I’ll be back here again next time to continue my ruminations on Eleanor Parker, and all of the sweet digressions she inspires.

Until then…

Be Well...

And stay engaged.
